About me and my therapy practice
My name is Liz and I am a person centred counsellor, working from my home in Wareham, Dorset.
My aim is to offer a friendly, professional, accessible and reasonably priced counselling service; empowering the people with whom I support to achieve positive change in their lives.
I have a physical disability myself and was an unpaid carer to my mother for many years. Prior to qualifying as a counsellor in 2012, I worked in social care for22 years, both in local government and the voluntary sector. At that time I specialised in working with families experiencing disability and sensory loss.
Since qualifying as a counsellor I have enhanced my training by undertaking continuous professional development with a focus on disability, the role of unpaid carers and grief and bereavement. In 2022 I undertook training with MSUK on working with people affected by Multiple Sclerosis.
Practice description
I currently offer counselling online, primarily via Google Meet or Facetime and also by telephone, according to the preference of my clients. Counselling may be provided just for a few sessions, or a much longer period depending on the needs of the client. Regular reviews are undertaken to ensure that my clients needs are being appropriately met.
My core approach is person centred; offering clients a warm, safe and empathetic environment in which to explore their feelings.
I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and where appropriate and with the agreement of my clients I may integrate this into our sessions. CBT may be useful where a client is trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts and feelings or feels overwhelmed by their situation. It is particularly helpful where a client is experiencing anxiety and/ or depression.
My first session
If you feel that counselling might be of benefit, please contact me. I offer a free initial session of 30-40 minutes to discuss your needs and expectations. I will also seek to answer any questions that you may have, in order to help you to make an informed decision about whether you would like us to work together.
For those who wish to have counselling, I provide a short written contract which sets out how we will work together, contact details, confirmation of fees and the time of sessions, and my professional obligations as a registered member of the 91×ÔÅÄ
