About me and my therapy practice
Hi I’m Sarah, I run Garden Room Counselling.
I offer face to face, online and walk and talk sessions.
My face to face sessions are in my garden room which was purpose built creating a calm and peaceful space for our sessions together.
I work with adults and teenagers and young adults.
I also work for the intercom Trust delivering counselling for members of the LGBTQ community.
I work as a humanistic integrative Counsellor, I work in a client led way and offer a non-judgmental space to support and explore my client’s individual needs.
I believe that the relationship is the most important aspect of the counselling process, with a safe and empathetic connection facilitating healing. I can offer a safe space to allow my clients to explore difficult feelings and find solutions, gain confidence and find a way forward.
I have experience of working with adults of different ages, experiencing a variety of problems such as, anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, bereavement, low self-esteem and everyday life difficulties to name a few. I have a specific interest in working with people from the LTBT+ community , exploring gender and sexual identity.
I also have over 30yrs experience working as a children's nurse, I have worked a lot with teenagers/young adults struggling with mental health problems.
As a member of the BACP I meet certain standards within my practice. I follow the BACP ethical framework to ensure my practice is safe, ethical and puts my clients first.
Practice description
I run my practice from my garden room, everything is designed to provide a calm, peaceful, and secure environment.
I offer online sessions for those who feel more comfortable in their own surroundings, or are unable to travel.
I also offer walk and talk sessions, these are well suited to those who love being around nature and in open spaces.
I work in a client-led way, holding the belief that the client is the expert in their own life. Therefore, I do not offer advice, I may at times gently challenge, and will provide a supportive space to work through an individual's issues alongside them. I work with my clients to explore their beliefs and motivations, to identify the root cause of their problems.
My first session
I offer an initial free 30 minute consultation , online or by telephone, this allows us to talk about the issues you want to work through, ask any questions and decide if I’m the right therapist for you.
During our first session we will talk in more depth about the issues you want to explore, and possibly set some goals for our work together. We will look at putting some boundaries in place to create a safe environment for our working relationship together.
I will take an interest in you and may ask some personal questions around family, work, home life, past trauma and any previous experiences of counselling, all within the boundaries of what you are comfortable to share at this stage.
