About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Angus, a Person-Centred Counsellor and registered member of the 91×ÔÅÄ I offer face-to-face & online Person-Centred counselling in Skipon that puts you at the heart of every session. Having worked in the charitable sector for over 8 years, with a particular focus on community and disability services it has formed my awareness of the complexities, challenges, and unpredictability that makes us human.

Every experience of sadness, anxiety, or distress I encounter reveals its own logic when examined with care and understanding. I appreciate everyone's individuality and uniqueness, however, being seen, heard, and understood can be very important in dealing with difficult life issues.

When you share whatever is weighing on your mind, whether it's anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem, together, in a compassionate and safe therapeutic space, we can begin the journey towards coping and finding a way forward.

Starting counselling can be challenging and feelings of anxiety from taking the first step are common. So, let's meet together and speak about how I can support you.

Practice description

Are you struggling with anxiety, feeling low, or finding life overwhelming in the Skipton area? Perhaps you feel unheard, judged, or unsure where to turn. As a person-centred counsellor, my primary focus is on you and your unique experience. This approach offers a profoundly safe and accepting space, free from pressure or expectation. Why is this helpful? Because when you feel truly heard and understood without judgement (what we call unconditional positive regard), it becomes possible to untangle difficult emotions at your own pace. You lead the way; I walk alongside you, offering support and understanding. Together, we can explore the roots of your anxiety or depression, helping you gain clarity and self-acceptance. If relationships feel strained, understanding your own feelings more deeply can pave the way for more meaningful communication and connection. We can work on building your self-esteem by gently exploring your experiences and helping you recognise your inherent worth, moving beyond self-criticism. Navigating life transitions or managing stress becomes less daunting when you have a supportive space to process your thoughts and feelings authentically.

My first session

Finding the right counsellor is an important first step. To help you feel comfortable and decide if my person-centred approach is right for you, I offer a free, no-obligation 20-minute introductory phone call. This is a relaxed opportunity for you to briefly share what you're looking for, ask any questions you might have about counselling or how I work, and get a feel for whether we'd be a good fit. There's no pressure to continue – it's simply a chance for us to connect.
