About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Mhairi, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, passionate about helping individuals aged 16 and over navigate life's challenges. My goal is to help you understand how your thoughts and behaviours influence your emotions and physical sensations. Together, we'll explore the areas of your life that are causing distress and identify the thoughts and behaviours linked to these challenges. By targeting these with practical tools and techniques, we can work towards changing unhelpful patterns, achieving better emotional regulation, and developing effective coping strategies.
Alongside Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I draw upon approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy, mindfulness, and Person-Centred Therapy to tailor the support to your unique needs. Compassion Focused Therapy helps to address self-criticism and build a kinder, more understanding relationship with yourself. Mindfulness techniques encourage grounding and present-moment awareness, fostering calm and clarity. Person-Centred Therapy allows us to create a truly empathetic and non-judgmental space, where your voice is at the heart of the process.
I will provide a collaborative and understanding environment where we can work together to create meaningful and lasting change. Whether you're seeking support online or in person, I am here to help you build resilience, confidence, and a greater sense of well-being.
Practice description
I provide counselling both online and in person from the garden room at Noble Beauty in Roslin. This room is a calm and welcoming space with a private entrance direct from the street.
I have experience working in a substance misuse service providing counselling to individuals with drug and alcohol addiction. As a result I have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and abuse, among other issues. I work in a trauma-informed way, the principles of which are safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment and cultural consideration.
My first session
I offer a free initial 15 minute consultation where we can discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and to allow you to ask any questions you may have about therapy. This will also give you the opportunity to see whether I'd be a good fit for you.
At your first session we will discuss what you'd like to achieve from therapy. I will gather some information from you to help us start to build up a picture of what's been going on for you and how we could work to alleviate the issues you're facing. This process ensures that our sessions are tailored to your individual needs and goals, helping us work effectively toward positive change.
