About me and my therapy practice
My name, Beinn (pronounced 'Ben'), means 'mountain' or 'hill' in Gaelic. Like the mountain, I aim to be solid and consistent presence, providing an accepting and empathic relationship at whichever point I join you as you make your way through life.
Practice description
How I work
I am trained in Person-Centred Experiential Therapy (PCET) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and I will support you in an open, empathic, and accepting way, aligned closely to your specific needs. My aim is to help you sit with, transform, and understand difficult feelings and my training allows me to offer specific therapeutic interventions to best help you access and process the fullness of your experience. I believe in transparent, evidence-based practice and encourage regular dialogue around the therapeutic work, adjusting my approach in response to you. Evidence shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is a reliable predictor of outcome and through this genuine human connection, I can help you identify and work towards your goals (and beyond).
My qualifications
MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy w/ Distinction - University of Strathclyde
Emotion-Focused Therapy Levels 1, 2, and 3 - University of Strathclyde CPD/Scottish Institute for Emotion-Focused Therapy
Current practice and experience
Currently, I split my counselling week between independent practice in Glasgow city centre and the Wellbeing Service at University of Strathclyde.
Previously, I worked as a therapist and trainee researcher at the University of Strathclyde Counselling and Psychotherapy Research clinic.
How I can help
I help a diverse range of people, have undertaken disability equality training and am committed to accessible and anti-discriminatory practice. I have worked with a wide range of experiences including disability, learning disability, chronic illness, autism, ADHD, neurodivergence, social-anxiety, trauma, self-harm, gender, sexuality, relationships, loss and redundancy
Where and how
I work in-person in Glasgow city centre and offer online therapy UK wide.
I am BACP registered therapist no. 400364 and adhere to the ethical code of practice.
In line with my commitment to access, I operate a sliding scale pricing policy and will happily discuss what you can afford.
My first session
What to expect
Your first therapy session with me will be unique to you; you may have something you immediately want to get off of your chest or you may feel a little blank and overwhelmed. You may have a clear sense of what you want to work with or you may arrive with an unclear feeling. You may be ready to work with a difficulty or goal that you've had in mind for some time or you could be in the midst of a crisis. In short: expect the unexpected.
These are just some of the experiences I can help you move through. In general, we are likely to cover basic contracting and the ways that confidentiality laws apply to therapy. We may also discuss any prior experiences of therapy and your goals for our work together. Beginning therapy can be exciting and/or daunting but wherever we start, the important work of building a solid, helpful, therapeutic relationship unfolds from the very first session.
Getting started
I offer a free introductory consultation in-person or via Zoom. Please don't hesitate to get in touch about your specific needs. I look forward to meeting you and finding out how I can help. Based on my training, I believe that an initial block of four sessions and a brief review before embarking on longer term work is a good starting point for most clients.
