About me and my therapy practice
Have you thought about counselling for a while and want to take the first step? Are you feeling alone and overwhelmed following a relationship breakup or bereavement? Or maybe a relationship didn’t work out and you’re unsure about connecting with others in the future.
I’m Diane, a qualified counsellor who understands how difficult it can be to reach out for support. Sometimes, it can be uncomfortable sharing your concerns with friends and family. I offer an accepting approach in a safe and private environment where we can explore what’s on your mind.
In counselling, you choose the themes for discussion. It can help you make sense of your relationships and emotions. You may gain an understanding of your thought patterns, decision-making processes and how you view yourself. By talking and engaging in counselling, you would have the time and space to discuss your uncertainties, doubts, and fears. We would go at your pace, ensuring you feel comfortable sharing when you are ready. I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting, especially when you're feeling anxious or unsure of what to expect.
Practice description
We would aim to develop a way of working that is based on understanding and acceptance. It would include openness, without judgment, and gentle honesty to help you develop a deeper understanding of what is unsettling you.
For several years, I volunteered with a West Yorkshire bereavement service and have experience working with people living with anxiety and overwhelming sadness, including those who are processing grief and loss. Every week, I work with adults who want to understand their relationships with partners, family and friends. I have extra training to support those surviving traumatic experiences and those who have feelings of doubt, guilt or shame.
Counselling can enable you to learn more about yourself and exploring relationships can help achieve a deeper understanding of your connections with others, including those who have been lost, through relationship breakups, divorce, separation and bereavement.
For those in the Harrogate, Knaresborough, Starbeck, Wetherby and Leeds areas, I am able to arrange in-person counselling sessions. Additionally, I offer nationwide online counselling that can provide a highly effective and convenient way of accessing therapy.
My first session
To establish if counselling is right for you, I offer a free 20-minute telephone call. It would enable me to understand the difficulties you are experiencing; you can ask questions and share your preferences and we can decide if we could work together.
At the first session, we will complete basic administration together, establish your reasons for seeking counselling and identify the themes you would like to discuss.
