About me and my therapy practice

I'm a fully qualified, BACP registered counsellor offering in-person and online counselling in central York.

There may be times in life when you feel overwhelmed and confused. You may be struggling with anxious feelings or stuck in unhelpful patterns and feel unable to change or know you have choice in how to respond.

Perhaps events or relationships from your past are still exerting their grip on you in the present, preventing you from living as you would like to. Trying to make sense of and overcome troubling thoughts and feelings on your own can leave you feeling isolated or disempowered.

Whatever it is that brings you to counselling, I can offer you a calm, confidential, non-judgmental space, a time just for you, where I will listen and invite you to be curious about yourself, and to explore and reflect on what is causing you distress and difficulty.

I believe that by working together in a supportive therapeutic relationship, where you feel safe and heard, you will begin to notice where you are stuck and where old habits, responses and ways of thinking that may have served you well in the past are no longer useful. Developing a greater awareness of your needs and choices can be empowering and help you to make the changes that feel right for you.

Practice description

In addition to counselling, I am also a qualified holistic health practitioner with an interest in how our minds, bodies, relationships and environment connect and impact each other.

I believe that people have the potential to grow in their own way and in their own time and that we are all unique in how we experience the world, how we feel things and respond to life’s challenges. Your beliefs, values and way of being are all important and valuable. I will listen carefully, with empathy and acceptance, to understand your perspective, and work in a way that is attuned to you and shaped by your specific needs.

As an integrative therapist I can draw on a variety of therapeutic skills and ways of working to help you explore and express difficult thoughts and feelings.

At all times, my aim is to support your own healing process and for you to work in a way that feels comfortable and safe for you.

My first session

Coming to counselling can feel like a big step. Finding the right person with whom you feel safe enough to talk openly and be yourself is truly important and will help you to get the most from therapy.

I offer a free initial 20-minute phone call so that you can see how you feel about talking to me and us working together. We can discuss any concerns you may have about counselling, and I can learn a bit more about what you hope to gain from therapy and if I am the right person for you.

We can then arrange meeting for a first session where you can tell me more about how you are feeling and what has brought you to counselling. I will ask you more about yourself to help me work out how, and if, I am able to help you. We will also discuss confidentiality and the way I work so you can feel reassured about starting therapy with me.
