About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my profile. I鈥檓 an integrative therapist, with an MA in Counselling from the University of Manchester. I am a fully insured, full accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I follow their ethical framework and guidelines for ethical practice.
How I work
An integrative approach means I can work in a range of ways, and at the start of therapy we begin by discussing a way of working that fits with who you are. This can range from focusing on solutions, seeking behavioural changes, exploring your past experiences or using creative techniques.
I help some clients find direction, meaning or purpose in their life. Other clients come to explore patterns that have so far been unhelpful in their lives to help find their potential and live in a way that feels more fulfilling and authentic with their true self. I aim to help my clients understand and give a voice to aspects of their lives that currently feel difficult or painful. This understanding can be cathartic and also help clients make decisions about things or come to terms with areas of their lives that they cannot change.
I offer a down-to-earth approach to counselling, with my belief that at the heart it is a conversation about living. Therapy aims to help you suffer or struggle less and work on opening up the possibilities in your life. I don鈥檛 attempt to 鈥渇ix鈥 you or tell you what to do, and have found that therapy works best when we work collaboratively, so I am not a silent therapist either.
I have experience working with military veterans or members of their families, focusing on issues including service life, operational deployments, or struggles with the transition to civilian life.
I have worked with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, a range of ages, and my practice is LGBTQ+ friendly. My practice is also neurodivergent affirming.
Practice description
Each session I invite clients to give themselves some time and space without the usual distractions and interruptions of normal life. This space can be so helpful and symbolic of the self-care you might need right now. I hope I can help you feel more interested in your life and become more able to talk about it with curiosity, to make some sense about why things feel the way they do. There鈥檚 the room and space to take seriously those thoughts or feelings we might normally push aside, dismiss or keep to ourselves in the ordinary world.
My first session
My first session with clients is about allowing you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you, and to explore what you want out of the sessions. I go through a contract of confidentiality, which I sign as an important part of helping you feel safe in your counselling.
