About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed and struggling to enjoy life?  Perhaps you are finding relationships challenging, feel depressed, have suffered a bereavement or other loss and are in need of support. It is often difficult to share worries with friends and family who may try to help but offer unwanted advice or unhelpful platitudes such as 'it could be worse', 'think positive', everything happens for a reason or 'time heals'.

Talking and being truly heard will increase your self awareness, helping you to understand what is going on for you. Perhaps past events have created unhelpful patterns which are keeping you stuck, or current relationships or issues are feeling difficult to manage.

It is my aim to help you to find a way to manage challenges more effectively and make lasting changes that will enhance your life and relationships.

Practice description

Counselling gives you regular time for yourself, a safe and confidential space to talk about what is troubling you without fear of judgement. The counselling relationship is a unique one built on respect and trust, and together we can explore what you choose to share at your own pace. You are free to discuss as much or as little as you want, whatever feels right for you.

I am a fully qualified counsellor, and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am trained in several therapeutic approaches and can therefore tailor your sessions to suit your individual needs.

My first session

You may have mixed feelings and be nervous about seeing a counsellor, but let me reassure you that I understand what this can be like. I trained for many years, learning how to help clients feel comfortable sharing their stories and feelings. and that training included many hours of personal therapy, so I really know what it can be like to take that first step.

If you would like to make an appointment or find out more please call me on my mobile or alternatively drop me an e mail and we can then have a confidential conversation to decide if you feel that counselling with me is right for you. Both my phone and e mail are private and confidential. If I am not available please leave a message and I will call you at a time convenient to you.

About me and my therapy practice

Are you struggling with grief and sadness, suffering alone following a bereavement or loss? Maybe you have lost a loved one, a much-wanted baby, a close relationship or an important job. Perhaps you are finding it difficult to cope with everyday responsibilities or have problems with sleeping, appetite or engaging with life. Grief is exhausting and you can find yourself feeling overwhelmed, lost and fearful of the future.

It might feel difficult to share some emotions such as guilt, jealousy or relief with friends and family, for fear of judgement.

An unhelpful response or misplaced reassurance, however well intended can make you feel isolated and misunderstood. It does not always help to hear that 'time heals', 'you can try again', ‘you’ll meet someone new’ or 'you’ll soon get another job'.

Practice description

I can offer you space to explore and talk through the wide range of feelings you may be experiencing whilst grieving whatever loss you have suffered.

Grief is unique for everyone and I can stand alongside you whilst you deal with the challenges of moving forward and rebuilding your life after loss in the way that feels right for you.

My first session

We will begin with an introductory telephone call for us to connect; I will share some brief details of what I can offer and you can chat to me about what you would like to focus upon. We will be able to gain a feel for each other and we can agree the practicalities of our sessions such as day and time, if you decide to proceed.  There is no charge or obligation to continue.

The first counselling session is a little different to a normal session.  I will ask you some background questions to find out a little more of what brings you to counselling and you can ask any further questions you have.  It will be an opportunity to ensure that we feel happy to work together as it is really important that you feel comfortable and we are a good fit for each other.
