Understanding the lived experiences of substance use relapse: An integrative counselling and psychotherapy perspective

Research title: Understanding the lived experiences of substance use relapse: An integrative counselling and psychotherapy perspective

Purpose of this research:
To explore personal experiences of relapses of substance use disorders from an integrated psychotherapeutic approach. Research has shown that the number of people who relapse remains high, despite relapse prevention interventions. There are many research statistics available, but very little research exploring individual experiences of relapses, which this research hopes to explore. This research could be beneficial for clinicians working in addiction services to help them gain more awareness on how integrating different approaches to relapse prevention may help their clients remain abstinent from illicit substances.

I am looking for 5 participants to interview via MS Teams audio only. Interviews will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, participants are able to withdraw from the research at any stage before and during the interviews. Participants’ names will pseudonymised in this research to protect anonymity.

Inclusion criteria:
- Participants will be in recovery from one or more substance use disorders.

- Participants will have been abstinent from these substances for a minimum of 1 year and will have experienced one or more relapses during their recovery.

- Participants will have been an inpatient at a treatment facility for their substance use at any given stage in their addiction.

If you meet the above criteria and are interested in participating in this research, please send me an email: 100581644@unimail.derby.ac.uk
