For research students in counselling, psychotherapy or integrated coaching-therapy
A digital peer support network for discussing research, exchanging ideas and sharing advice听
Who is the PGR Forum for?听
Our Postgraduate Research (PGR) Forum is a platform for counselling, psychotherapy and integrated coaching-therapy master's degree and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, or anyone thinking about undertaking postgraduate research. Both members and non-members are welcome to join the forum.听
Advanced research is often carried out independently and can feel isolating or lonely. For researchers in this field, their research can take place in a university department in psychology or health sciences, or in the broader social sciences, but sometimes there鈥檚 little support beyond the immediate supervisory team. The BACP PGR Forum provides a space to connect with other students and researchers working in a similar field to exchange ideas, discuss research interests, pool advice and become involved in a peer support network.听
What does the PGR Forum offer?听
Within a friendly and informal environment, the PGR Forum offers regular events and resources to facilitate peer support and learning, and opportunities to develop academic skills.听
Events:
- monthly research forums and discussions
- guest speakers from the field of counselling and psychotherapy research
- virtual writing retreats throughout the year
Resources:
- a digital space through Microsoft Teams for ongoing debate and work-sharing (includes weekly posted research resources and events of interest)
- access to the BACP research noticeboard to advertise for participants
- a monthly news email highlighting useful resources and upcoming events
Opportunities to develop academic skills:
- presenting research and/or holding research discussions
- chairing research seminars
- abstract writing (includes drop-in sessions to support writing abstracts for submission to our annual research conference)
In the future we may offer more. The direction of the forum is led by its members.
What do members say about PGR Forum?
鈥淢eeting other researchers who share resources and ideas is motivating and rewarding. The forum meetings are unique and specific to the type of research we do in counselling/psychotherapy, so a really worthwhile use of time鈥.
鈥淔or myself, the Forum has been a lifeline as I can connect with my 'tribe' of other researchers in counselling and psychotherapy鈥.
鈥淪ince joining a couple of weeks ago, I have been so motivated and have felt very connected to other researchers! I can鈥檛 believe I didn鈥檛 join this group sooner.鈥
How do I join?
